![]() And then I was absolutely flabbergasted and discombobulated to see, a great up-splash of blood, and the moose's head detached from the body and landed not three feet from where I was hidden, its eyes staring right at me. Why it was if you or I would swat a fly, but the impact seemed to me as loud as a gunshot. The moose's head became decapitated and flew a distance of fifteen to twenty feet.and quick as a spark on a fire the grizzly bear stood up and swatted the moose in the face. The moose charged full speed across the stream, and just as it neared the bear, the bear stood up and with a quick motion swiped the moose in the side of the face. Moose are very territorial, and they are especially known to attack anything they perceive to be a threat to their water source. According to his account, he witnessed a moose drinking from a stream when a Grizzly bear approached from the other side. ![]() The first reported event took place in Alaska in 1895 by a Russian miner who was hiking through the wilderness. Google grizzly bear kills moose for a demonstration video of how a grizzly can quite easily take down a large prey species. Unlike gorillas they are very much apex predators, or, in this case, apex omnivores. Grizzlies, unfortunately, have even larger teeth and match them with 4 inch long claws. They do have impressively large canine teeth so when two dominant Silverbacks do throw down its on uncommon for both to suffer severe injuries. They have 3 1/2" incisors and 6" claws that they use to disembowel prey (it's claimed they can bite a bowling ball in half). ![]() They top out at over 12' tall and over 1,200 pounds. A full grown grizzly on the other hand is just about the apex land predator walking the earth. Their fangs are not generally used for fighting, so they essentially use their fists. A wild male silverback is non-predatory vegetarian topping out at under 6' tall a little over 400 pounds and has fangs less than 2" long.
